Claudia Howat

I've been experimenting with fusing glass to clay by rolling out the clay and carving out the image, firing it, glazing it, and fusing glass in the hollows. I get different effects depending on the type of glass and how I distribute it and whether I refire more layers of glass for depth.

Mandem

Mandem is a symbiotic pair of artists (Moco & Maize Steinman-Arendsee) working together in what might be awkwardly described as a 'Vulcan Mind Meld.' Our work generally deals with transmutation and evolution – capturing the metamorphic moments of life where everything changes, and telling the stories of multivalent, multi-textured, variegated things.

Leslie Puckett
lesliepuckett@comcast.net
I love the way that many artists look at everyday items or issues and show them in another way or from a different perspective. I like old stories and myths from other cultures and try to understand their view of the world and incorporate bits of those stories and characters into my own world. I like going to galleries and junk stores, looking through books and magazines, and gathering ideas for new creations. Sometimes, I feel my head is going to explode from the wild mixture churning away in there.

I have been working with the medium of enamel since 1976, either creating enamel art pieces or teaching enameling. Enamel is powdered glass that is fused to metal. I apply and fire my enamel work in many layers in a 1500 kiln. My enamels are assemblage wall pieces, relief sculptures, or jewelry.
