I enjoy deconstructing ordinary concepts, the things we are used to seeing in only one way. Objects and ideas whose beauty and intrigue we may have become immune to. When they are reconstructed in an abstract manner, form is allowed to flow freely without the constraint of the accepted norm, and the viewer is invited to rediscover the ordinary object in a different way. My sculptures are intended to engage the viewer visually, and will hopefully inspire them to challenge the familiar.

Ken Echternacht

The subjects of my sculpture portray my long-term interests. To earn the money to support my art I have worked for many years in the arena of environmental sciences -- principally water quality. Coupled with that pursuit has been a lifelong fascination with the fauna living in and around and also dependent on water. For the past several years, my sculptural work has focused on the waterbirds inhabiting Florida's wetlands. My interest is in creating naturalistic impressions of those magnificent creatures. I work in mild and stainless steel, bronze, and copper.

Ira Hill
850-264-1661 | robertirahill@yahoo.com | www.irahillsculpture.com
The work I chose to create is labor intensive and built to inspire beyond my time. All we are each given—our minds, our spirits, our energies—are spent in ways often undetermined by ourselves. Today we experience a variety of influences that sometimes make it difficult to think, function, and focus as a creative individual. We forget that we are capable of doing amazing things by using our minds and applying energies in focused work. In choosing what work to invest our spirits, we realize that it is the work that makes us real, and work is good.

Deborah La Grasse
850-510-0908 | dlagrasse@yahoo.com | www.deborahlagrasse.com
I use cast and fabricated metal and mixed media to define the mystery, strength and power of the human spirit in a symbiotic relationship with the transience of life, the immediate and the eternal. I am most interested in exploring images, symbols and metaphors for fears that transcend cultural and physical boundaries relating to life and to the landscapes that we have created. Symbols and meanings of metals, minerals and natural stones relate to spiritual growth, consciousness expansion and healing. The mixture of media expresses collective energies in communication with the soul of the earth as an inquiry as to its inner depth and meaning, and our relation to it.

Susan Stelzmann
suestelzmann@comcast.net | www.stelzmannart.com
My ceramic pieces mix familiar architectural motifs with exotic decorations. By using architectural motifs, I express my feelings about the world and how I internalize its values. But unlike an architect I want to challenge these values by contrasting known motifs with unexpected quirky elements. By inserting whimsy and fantasy I want to create a dream world reality that is evocative.
